<p>The present invention entails a method and apparatus for applying tamper evident bands (38b) to a container (c). In particular, the apparatus of the present invention directs a supply strip of banding material (38a) to a cutter (102) which cuts the supply strip (38a) into a series of cut bands (38b). From the cutter (102), the respective cut bands (38b) are, one at a time, transferred to a suction source (202) and held. A form (212) is passed adjacent the suction source (202) and strips the cut band (38b) from the suction source (202). While the cut band (38b) is held within the form (212), a container (c) is passed thereunder, and because of the spacing of the form (212) and the position of the container (c), the container top or lid engages a portion of the cut band (38b) held within the form (212) and strips the cut band (38b) from the form (212). Thereafter, the container (c) and cut band (38b) are passed underneath a vibrating plate (220), causing the plate (220) to engage the cut band (38b) and to properly position the same about the container (c) for subsequent heat treatment.</p> |
