PURPOSE:To obtain the flexible reflection liquid crystal display device of a thin type and low electric power consumption which does not require a back light by laminating at least one scattering type liquid crystalline bodies and a light absorber disposed on an optical path of the light transmitted through the scattering type liquid crystalline bodies. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal layer 1 changes from a turbid state to a transparent state or vice versa when the orientation pattern of liquid crystal molecules 1a consisting the liquid crystalline bodies is changed y impression of a voltage or impression of a magnetic filed or heating or energizing. A film having a black surface is usually used. A film having black surface is usually used. The liquid crystal layer 1 and visible light absorption layer 2 are formed of contact type structures. The liquid crystal layer 1 and a visible light absorption layer 2 are constituted to maintain tight contact with each other. Since the liquid crystal layer 1 can partially control the liquid crystal molecule orientation pattern, the incident external light on the liquid crystal layer 1 in a nonuniform refractive part is scattered and reflected and, therefore, this region is visible bright from any place.
