PRODUCTION OF GLASS ROD FOR OPTICAL FIBER

摘要

PURPOSE:To produce an excellent glass rod for an optical fiber, low in the content of air bubbles and variation of the outer diameter by making the uniform packing density of silica-based powder possible, accordingly not only making the density of its porous molding uniform but also reducing variation of the outer diameter and producing a transparent glass therefrom. CONSTITUTION:In production of a glass rod for an optical fiber by packing a silica-based powder into a mold, subsequently pressing it from the outside for the purpose of formation of a porous molding and sintering the resultant porous molding, the silica-based powder and the mold are subjected to destaticizing treatment at a point of time when the silica-based powder is packed into the mold.
