PURPOSE:To make it possible to obtain preferable superconducting material, etc., by treating orthorhombic C60 carbon cluster at prescribed temperature. CONSTITUTION:An opening 2 and helium gas inlet 3 are provided in a chamber 1 and graphite electrodes 4 and 5 are oppositely arranged in the interior to give an arc discharge apparatus. Then the electrodes 4 and 5 and subjected to arc discharge by applying the positive and negative voltage from direct current source 6 thereto to vaporize graphite electrodes and raise of the resultant soot is prevented by a copper sheet 7 to provided soot deposited in the lower part as well as C60 carbon cluster. The cluster is deposited from a solution of a nonpolar solvent such as carbon disulfide consisting of a linear molecule to provide a orthorhombic C60 carbon cluster having >=500$mum size. Then the cluster is annealed at 50-500 deg.C for >=2hr to produce a face-centered cubic C60 carbon cluster having >=500mum size. |
