PURPOSE:To provide the liquid crystal display element having a high contrast and good black and white characteristics. CONSTITUTION:The phase difference films 2, 4 of the liquid crystal display element having a super twisted liquid crystal cell 3 and the plural phase difference films 2, 4 are so selected that the wavelength dispersion value nu (3DELTAn (450nm)/DELTAn (590nm)) is smaller by 0.01 to 0.05 than the nu value of the liquid crystal. The similar effect is obtd. if the plural phase difference films 2, 4 varying in nu value are used in such a manner that the average of the nu value thereof attains the above-mentioned value if the above-mentioned nu value is not obtainable with a single high-polymer material. |
