PURPOSE:To make uniform the variation in the storability under charged condition, by causing a paste obtained through rub-out of lead powder and dilute sulfuric acid to be filled in a grating of lead/calcium type alloy having a small content of antimony after the grating has been cleaned and dried. CONSTITUTION:A cast grating 1 consists of Pb-Ca alloy containing only a small amount of antimony. The grating 1 is immersed in a dilute sulfuric acid reception immersing/cleaning tub in a state wherein it is suspended from a chain conveyor 5, and then is cleaned, and then is dried in an oven 3. A paste is filled from a paste filling device 4. The resulting grating is aged and dried to obtain a non-formed positive electrode. The mentioned paste is one prepared through rub-out of iron powder as a main component and a dilute sulfuric acid. Thus, when the grating has fallen off, the average value and the maximum value of the weight reduction are both decreased. Besides, the active material is bound onto the surface of the grating 1, so that almost no exposed portion is observed. This proves that the adhesion between the grating 1 and the active material is in a good condition. By this, it is possible to improve the storability under high temperature and the chargeability under a constant voltage. |
