The invention relates to a safety base allowing a temporary signpost or the like provided with a movable prop to be given stability. The base is made up of a board (1) supported by ribs (9) and equipped on two of its parallel edges (6) and (8) with a stop catch (5) and (7) forming a limit stop for the legs (3) and the movable prop (4) of the sign (2) which are engaged manually in the space provided between the top of the anchoring hooks (10) and the underside of the tongues (11) which cover them.
