Appts. for removing the residue of a used anode from its anode rod comprises stripper arms which support the underside of the anode nipple support and multiple stripper plates which grip around the anode nipples and push the anode residue down as the anode rod is held firm. To do this the arms and plates are vertically moveable with respect to each other. ADVANTAGE - The residue can be reliably removed without subjecting the anode rod to high pressure forces.
