The ball drop testing appts. has a vertical drop tube (4) for a drop block (5) held at a drop height by a triggerable holder (6) automatically adjustable to the required height. The block free-falls onto the test object (3) when released. The holder can be lowered to mount and replace the block. Control devices (14) at a defined distance from the impact point are activated during positioning of a newly mounted drop block and monitor for the achievement of the required height by the lower end of the block whilst the block is raised. USE/ADVANTAGE - ALlows drop blocks suitable for each test to be used. Simpler to operate. Eliminates test result errors arising from mistakes in entering height adjustment values.
