<p>The invention relates to a system for authenticating a security paper. It comprises, in combination: - a security paper comprising a first chemical reactant (1) which does not significantly impair the colour of the paper, - an authenticating composition comprising a second chemical reactant (2) forming a coloured product with (1), - a composition for deleting the coloured product. It preferably comprises: - a security paper comprising a complexant for transition metal ions as reactant (1), - an authenticating composition comprising transition metal ions forming a coloured complex with (1), as reactant (2), - a composition for deleting the coloured complex.
