PRODUCTION OF STEP TYPE OPTICAL FIBER

PURPOSE:To simply obtain a step type optical fiber of a large diameter. CONSTITUTION:Many glass fibers 2 having a high refractive index are packed in a glass tube 1 for a clad having a low refractive index to form a base material and this base material is drawn. The glass fibers 2 are integrated by melting and thus the objective optical fiber with a single large core is obtd. GI type glass fibers may be used as the glass fibers 2 and the resulting optical fiber has stepped refractive index profile.
