The exhaust gas system is for an IC engine (1) in a vehicle. It has a covered front pipe (4) running to a catalytic converter (5) with a flow of cooling air led between the exhaust pipe and the cover (9) depending on the temperature at the exhaust gas cleaning unit. The cooling air flow continues in a cooling air tube (12) to the tail pipe (8) of the exhaust system (2), where the tail pipe and the cooling air tube form, with the exhaust flow emerging from the tail pipe, a suction flow pump for the cooling air stream. USE/ADVANTAGE - IC engine exhaust system which avoids the expense of a blower to move the cooling air.
