The safe (1) extending through a wall is assembled from an inner wall unit (8), a central unit (9) and an outer wall unit (10). The inner door (3) has flaps (7,26) opening outwards and inwards to allow valuables to be thrown into the optical path between an electronic assembly (17) and a mirror (21) within the central unit (9). The positions of inner and outer doors (3,13) are monitored by sensors and their opening is permitted or inhibited by the logic of a programmed microprocessor. USE/ADVANTAGE - E.g. for storing day's takings in department store. Contents can be retrieved by authorised person from openly visible position.
