To regenerate and restore the fixing bath, for developing photographic materials, the fixing bath is recirculated for silver through an electrolysis cell and topped up with fresh fixing bath. The amount of fresh fixing bath, for topping-up, is set according to the current power at the electrolysis cell. The current altered by the electrolysis cell is measured, for the values to be compared with nominal values at a microprocessor or computer. From the comparison, control signals are generated for the dosing system to deliver fresh fixing bath. ADVANTAGE - The volume of fresh fixing bath required is determined automatically, and fed to the fixing bath in the photo development appts.
