The suspended railway has cabins travelling in both directions, crossing each other at the stations and all arriving at the stations simultaneously. They also all depart simultaneously. An electric motor, pref. at each station, drives an endless traction rope loop between that station and the next. Hydraulically-operated clamp arms on the cabins grip the rope and aer released at the staions while passengers alight. The arms are controlled by an electric motor in the cabin, activated by a conducting strip hanging below and coming into contact with the exposed part of a buried bus-bar at the station. An electrical time switch can initiate the departure of each cabin from its station. USE/ADVANTAGE - High-capacity, rapid transportation of passengers. Partic. suitable for mountainous regions.
