PURPOSE:To produce an active carbon porous body of excellent quality by blending an aqueous dispersion of a plastic with a composition composed of a resol, a lipophilic compound and a hydrophilic compound, then carbonizing and activating the resultant cured resin product at a high temperature. CONSTITUTION:To a 100 pts.wt. resol type phenolic resin (resol); mix 1-100 pts.wt. lipophilic compound such as liquid paraffin which has >=100 deg.C boiling point and is a liquid at ordinary temperature; 1-100 pts.wt. hydrophilic liquid compound such as polyethylene glycol having >=100 deg.C boiling point and 1-200 pts.wt. aqueous dispersion such as polyethylene or polyethylene wax. The resultant mixture is sufficiently stirred. A curing agent such as p-toluenesulfonic acid is then added to the prepared mixture. The obtained mixture is further stirred to produce a cured resin product, which is then heated at >=500 deg.C in a nonoxidizing atmosphere, carbonized and activated to afford the objective active carbon porous body having performances excellent as electrodes of electric double layer capacitors. |
