Spine thickness measurement on book during automatic binding - evaluating surface roughness variance and difference between silhouettes on two linear photosensor arrays
摘要
A stack of pages (14) is compressed in a carriage (12) for transport to trimming and gluing stations (16,18). The base of the stack (14) forms the spine (10) whose thickness is monitored by edge illumination from a light source (22) directed at a camera (24) comprising a row (30) of photosensitive elements (32). A second source (34) and camera (36) at the gluing station (18) are likewise connected to a computer (26) which evaluates both silhouettes (32) and deduces the thickness of the layer of glue (28). ADVANTAGE - Contactless and reliable measurement at high speed with practically no inertia does not affect binding process.
