A device for pocketing plates for accumulators in separators has a supply coil (1) from which a separator strip (6) is drawn and conveyed in a vertically running channel (10) to an end stop (20). In the channel (10) there is provided a slot through which a folding plate (40) (on which a plate is placed by a plate layer (24)) can be pushed, folding and pushing out the piece of separator strip. The device furthermore has a device (26) for welding the superimposed longitudinal edges of the folded separator, and a withdrawal device (30), by means of which a pocketed accumulator plate is transferred to an unstacking device, accumulator plates being placed on each pocketed accumulator plate by a further plate layer (31). The unstacking device comprises a transfer device (33) which forms plate stacks on its output side on a collector grating (35).
