SDO ABE> The method applies to low bit rate vocoders comprising predictor filters for encoding speech signal samples. It consists in extracting (2) the peak values of the prediction error samples of the predictor filters, and in monitoring (3) the extracted peak values in order to detect (4, 5) the variations and the stable zones of the speech signal.
