A door closer comprises a damper having a body case 1 with an arm 4 fixed to a door 37, and a rotational shaft 7 mounted in the body case 1 and having a pair of blades 10,10 disposed in a pair of chambers 9,9 filled with viscous liquid, the blades 10,10 having passages 11,11 formed with check valves 15,15. The rotary blades 10,10 are rotated together with the shaft 7 by a sub case 31 fixed to the door 37, via a sub arm 39 to coil a return spring 30 upon opening the door 37. An intermediate plate 28 is disposed between a stationary plate 27 fixed to the body case 1 and a movable plate 29 fixed to the sub case, the intermediate plate being rotatable through a set angle to coil the spring 30. A clutch mechanism comprises a plurality of rotary connectors 33 arranged circumferentially on the intermediate plate 28 and spaced apart to align with a plurality of through holes in the plate 28. The rotary connectors 33 lock the intermediate plate 28 to the movable plate 29 until the spring 30 is fully wound whereupon the stationary plate 27 is locked to the intermediate plate to allow further, free opening of the door. <IMAGE> |
