The refuse bin has a strip (14) set on a vertical wall of the bin body (12) to define a downwardly open channel into which a lift device can be inserted which then unlocks the locking device for the lid. The locking device (20) can be held in the locking position by gravity and is preferably a rocker lever supported loose in a chamber of the strip. Since when emptying the container, the latter is swivelled about a horizontal axis the force of gravity then opens the locking device. USE/ADVANTAGE - Locking device on lid ensures that larger objects cannot be placed in the locked refuse bin.
