Metal cord, composed of a number of metal wires or filaments twisted together, incorporates a single or several strands of a thermoplastic material between them. Through heat, the thermoplastic material melts or softens and, through capillary action, fills the gaps and empty zones between the metal wires or filaments. Pref. the strands are of a material which develops a gas under heat, and foams. The dissipation of the strand material into the inner zones of the metal cord is reinforced by an outer covering, which applies a radial force component.
