IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO CONTAINER HANDLES

A plastics container handle is formed from a strip (12) having at each end thereof a separately moulded button (14) fitting through an aperture in the strip and welded thereto. Each button (14) is adapted for snap-in connection in an indentation (28) in a wall (26) of a container (40). The handle can be formed automatically in sequence at successive work stations (32-38) of a machine above a conveyor line for the containers (40). At successive work stations (42-48) the handle can be automatically fitted to a respective container and subsequently passed through stacking and unloading locations. The strip (12) is formed by cropping to size a moulded or extruded strip and then piercing respective ends of the strip. The welding of the buttons to the strip may be by spin welding, ultrasonic welding, friction welding or hot plate welding.
