Laser Profiling of Lens Edge

A method for forming a curved edge (19) on a lens (11) comprising the steps of providing an annular laser beam (17) and irradiating a first peripheral region (Figure 3) of the lens (11) with the laser beam (17) to remove a layer of lens material from the first peripheral region through ablative photodecomposition. Next, a second peripheral region (Figure 3) of the lens (11) is irradiated with the laser beam (17) to remove a layer of lens material from the second peripheral region.
