PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound useful for cosmetics or ointments in high purity and yield with suppressed side reactions by hydrolysis with water of an alkyl glycidyl ether in the presence of an acid catalyst such as phosphoric acid in a N-substituted amide as solvent. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound can be obtained by hydrolysis a 8-24C alkyl glycidyl ether (e.g. stearyl glycidyl ether) with water pref. at 120-170 deg.C for 3-10hr of in the presence of a catalyst, phosphoric acid or activated clay, using a N,N-substituted amide (e.g. dimethylformamide) as solvent. |
