The hair curler has a sensor (3.1) within it for detecting deformation forces resulting from hair shaping treatment acting on the curler which reversibly stores the forces. The sensor has at least one corresp. lever system (2.1). The lever system is a strain gauge sensor arrange parallel to the curler longitudinal axis (4) and attached at one end to a bearing (5) which interacts with the inner wall (6). The other end of the sensor is sprung supported on a knife edge support (7) which interacts with the opposite inner wall. The sensor may operate on an induction principle where a magnetic core reciprocates in an induction coil and the resulting induction change is measured. ADVANTAGE - Sensor produces sufficiently large measurement signal.
