A pan assembly (10) for a conveyor line of an armored face conveyor includes an elongated deck plate (11) defining the feed path (P) of the conveyor system and a pair of parallel side members (13, 14). Spaced keys (20) extend outwardly from the deck plate (11) to fit in corresponding slots (21) in the side members (13, 14). The slots (21) are open to the outside to expose the keys (20) and welds (22) extend along these outer edges to attach the keys (20) to the side members (13, 14). The deck plate (11) rests on the lower edge of the slots (21). The side members (13, 14) are sigma sections with the center portion having the slots being recessed. <IMAGE>
