PURPOSE:To remarkably reduce the O, content in molten metal by sprinkling a solid reducing agent over the surface of the molten copper-based metal, then blowing an inert gas into the molten metal and/or blowing an inert gas against the molten metal surface. CONSTITUTION:Charcoal as a solid reducing agent, for example, is uniformly sprinkled over the surface of copper or a copper alloy. A gas having a lower O2. gas partial pressure than that in the molten metal such as an inert gas is then blown into the molten metal through a lance, and the difference between the 0, gas partial pressure in the formed gas bubble and that in the molten metal is utilized. The O2 gas in the molten metal is diffused into the gas bubble, collected, floated up in the molten metal and discharged to the outside along with the gas blown from the molten metal surface. Consequently, the O2 gas in the molten metal and the O2 gas generated from the surface by reduction are rapidly removed, the discharged 02 gas is not redissolved in the molten metal, and reduction is promoted.
|
