PURPOSE:To provide raw material powder of an aluminum nitride sintered compact having high thermal conductivity and light shielding properties and strength at the same time. CONSTITUTION:Aluminum nitride powder contains particles of a compound of at least one element selected from the group consisting of Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Mo, W, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Ag, Au, Pt, Pd, B, Al, Si and Mg in aluminum nitride particles. In order to include the aforementioned compound particles in the aluminum nitride particles, the aluminum nitride particles are initially dispersed in an organic solvent containing an organic compound of the above- mentioned element dissolved therein and the organic solvent is then separated and recovered. Thereby, the objective aluminum nitride powder containing the compound particles of the aforementioned element in the aluminum nitride particles is obtained. |
