PURPOSE:To obtain optical fiber capable of carrying out light amplification with high gain in 1.3mum wavelength range. CONSTITUTION:BeF2 concentration of fluoride glass for optical fiber containing BeF2 and PrF3 is made >=10mol%. The glass is incorporated with AlF3, ZrF4 and BaF2. The glass is incorporated with at least one of a bivalent alkaline earth metal fluoride, a trivalent cation fluoride and an alkali metal fluoride. The glass has a composition of >=10mol% BeF2 <=45mol% AlF3, <=2mol% PrF3, <=25mol% ZrF4 or HfF4, <=25mol% BaF2, <=70mol% total of BeF2+CaF2+ SrF2, <=25mol% YF3 or LaF3, <=10mol% InF3 or GaF3, <=15mol% zinc fluoride ZnF2 and <=20mol% alkali metal fluoride. |
