An electrical installation socket has a main body of plastics material (11) with a centre recess that receives the connecting plug. Access to the recess is only possible when a hinged cover (13) is in the open position. The cover has an inner profile such that, when it is in the closed position, the socket contacts are protected against moisture or water. The cover is supported on a hinge bracket (22) set into a recess. The hinge has hook-shaped forms at both ends with support pins for the cover. A spring built into the hinge biases the unit to the closed position when the plug is absent. ADVANTAGE - Reduced number of parts, simple to assemble.
