A support prop (1) for use in a mine comprises two hollow steel tubes (2,4) which fit telescopically one (4) inside the other (2) on a common long axis (6). The lower tube (2) is closed by an integral cover plate at the bottom (3), and the upper plate (5) closes the top of the upper tube (4), thus enclosing a common void (7). There is a spring loaded filler valve (8) fitted in the side (10) of the upper tube (4) opposite a filler inlet (11) in the other side (10). After filling the prop (1) with concrete the clip (29) is removed from the end of the valve stem so that its mushroom head (18) springs into a seating inside the filler (11). USE/ADVANTAGE - Forms a monolithic core when the concrete has set.
