A fire-resistant poly(butylene terephthalate) material is described that comprises poly(butylene terephthalate) and 5-35 wt-% of a branched polymer with a hydroxyl value of 2.8-30 and with the structural formula <IMAGE> where each repeating unit within the brackets of the structural formula is bound - in the ortho or para position - to its adjacent phenyl or phenoxy group, and where each E represents a terminal group with the formula <IMAGE> where Y is a side chain with the same structure and configuration as the repeating unit, the substituents Br, E and Y on each benzene ring are bonded only in the ortho or para position with respect to the hydroxyl group in the structural formula and the oxygen atom in the repeating unit, each t, p and q represent, independently of one another, the integer 0 or 1 but the sum of t plus p and q is equal to 2, and where 10-80 wt-% of the repeating units contain bound side chains and the terminal unit -Y-E, and m is an integer such that the total molecular weight of the polymer is between 2000 and 20,000. |
