PURPOSE:To improve the productivity of a lead-acid battery, and reduce the cost thereof by applying the constitution wherein the specified percentage of the apparent surface of a plate formed for use in the battery, is so made as to maintain absorption function for 1,2-dimethoxyethane at a level equal to or above the specified value, when the plate is in contact therewith. CONSTITUTION:50% of the apparent surface area of a positive plate 1 molded into such form as suitable for use in a battery, is kept in contact with 1,2- dimethoxyethane (DME). In this case, the plate 1 is such type as having absorption performance to absorb a minimum of 40 milligram of DME per gram of the plate 1 in one minute after the contact. Thereafter, the plate 1 is pressed into a positive can 2, and this can 2 is filled with an electrolyte. Then, the can 2 is coupled to a negative can 3 housing a negative plate 4 via an insulation packing 6, and sealed to be liquid-tight. According to this construction, performance to absorb the electrolyte is improved. Also, a process for storing the can 2 without sealing after filling the electrolyte can be eliminated, and the productivity and discharge performance of the battery can be improved. At the same time, the cost of the battery can be reduced. |
