An electric thermometer for chemical engineering has a pressure- and corrosion-proof measurement transmission in order to prevent reaction media from escaping from a reaction vessel in the event of fracture of the protective glass tube 1 which houses the measuring element 3. The necessary seal is provided by a bush 9, e.g. of fluorocarbon resin, having corrosion-resistance (tantalum) conductive pins 11 passing therethrough to provide connections between sensor wires 13 and further leads connected to terminals 14 in a housing 8. As shown the tube 1 is fused to a short, thick glass sleeve 4 having flanges 5, 6 at its respective ends. The flange 6 is used to compress the bush 9, or a collar 10 thereon, against an opposed flange 7 on the terminal housing. The other flange 5 of the sleeve is used to mount the thermometer on a reaction vessel. <IMAGE>
