In order permanently to eliminate axial play in an armature spindle (1) of an electric motor, especially for the windscreen wiper installation of a motor vehicle, even during alterations, a clamping member (3, 32) loaded by a spiral spring (13) continuously presses against the end (32) of the armature spindle (1). The clamping member (3) need not necessarily be applied directly to the end of the armature spindle but a cap (34) fitted on the end of the armature spindle may be interposed. It is held so as not to rotate in the motor housing or a gear casing. The jacket of an eccentric forming the clamping member (3) is arranged on the outside (6) of the bottom of the cap. In another variant there is a mushroom-shaped clamping member (32), the head (34) of which presses against the end (35) of the armature spindle. The axial adjusting movement in connection with at least one helical surface (38, 39) on the clamping member (32) co-operating in the stroke-rotary direction with one or more helical counter-surfaces (40, 41) of the housing (e.g. 42).
