The arrangement for adjusting a vertically guided wt. (4) rotates a shaft (12) which is acted upon by a defined braking moment which compensates the effects of gravity. An idler arranged between the part exerting the braking moment and the shaft raises the wt. when the shaft rotates. The force moving the wt. up and down is equal or approx. equal so that the braking moment is approx. double the moment required to compensate for gravity. The idler (14) acts on a friction ring (9) rotatably mounted in a fixed part. The frictional moment is adjustable using a clamping device (7,8). USE/ADVANTAGE - E.g. for optician equipment, microscope or still camera. Ensures approximately equal torque is required for raising and lowering.
