PURPOSE:To obtain an extremely small-sized, easy-to-operate distance measuring instrument by counting acceleration data by using an acceleration sensor which varies in output frequency through the operation of an advance-directional acceleration component. CONSTITUTION:Acceleration sensors 4 and 5 which measure horizontal and vertical (height) mevements, an integrated circuit chip 7 in which the circuit system of the instrument is packaged, a liquid-crystal display device 2, etc., are mounted in a cylindrical case 1. The sensors 4 and 5 consist of a fixed electrode 21 made of a conductive thin film provided on the surface of a substrate 20 using glass, ceramic, a printed board, silicon, metal, etc., and a capacitive element 23 made of a movable electrode plate 18 formed by working a thin film of metal. Then, the element 23 varies in capacity as the centers of both electrode plates come closer to or move away from each other according to upward or downward acceleration, so the counted value of a frequency obtained in time series is processed to obtain speed information, distance information, mean speed information, etc. |
