<p>PURPOSE:To provide a chip varistor which never fails to prevent the generation of heat by an element or the damage of a circuit device even if a varistor function is lost due to application of a surge of the specified value or above. CONSTITUTION:An internal electrode 3 is buried in a ceramic body 2 and a surface electrode 4 is so formed on the outer surface of the ceramic body 2 as to face the internal electrode 3. Then, external electrodes 6a, 6b are formed on both end faces 2a, 2b of the ceramic body 2 and one end face 3a of the internal electrode 3 is connected to one external electrode 6a. Thus, a chip varistor 1 is fabricated. Between the other external electrode 6b and the surface electrode 4, a fuse part 7 is formed which melts when a surge of the specified value or above is applied. The surface of the ceramic body 2 except for the external electrodes 6a, 6b and the fuse part 7, at least the surface of the surface electrode 4, is coated with glaze 8.</p> |
