Process involving fibrous material, partic. to prepare a sliver for spinning, in which the raw material is opened up, cleaned and subsequently carded. The initial separation from the opening and carding, is fed back into the input alongside the opening and cleaning, and the clean fibre from the initial separation is introduced before the carding stage. The appts. is also claimed. The cotton from bales is pref. sepd. into tufts of fibre which are lifted by a conveyor into a hopper and pressed into a lap by the condensor rollers, so that it can be fed into the opening roller against the feed trough. The opened fibre is then pressed by the bar to the sawtooth clothing of the carding swift. Any debris extracted by centrifugal force is cut away by the blade at the edge of the flat, and falls into the trash can. The fibres attached to the carding swift then proceed to the sawtooth cover on the drum revoloving at a higher speed. This drum has a perforated surface with suction in the interior directed to the working point by a baffle plate fixed to the interior. The majority of long fibres are then deposited on the doffer roller. The short fibres and dust is drawn by suction into the cyclone, with filtration box attached, separating useful fibre from trash, which is extracted. The fibre is re-introduced into a channel alongside the opening roller by pneumatic or mechanical means. Side sections are fitted to the opening roller swift drum and doffer and the fibre is introduced into the mainstream continuously. Similar extraction is carried out by drums and fed back to the initial roller, pneumatically after sepn. of trash and short fibres. The product of sliver is taken through a drawframe and packed in the card can.
