PURPOSE:To obtain a fail safe performance by ensuring a transmission path for a light signal while failures are arising in an optical amplifier in an optical communication network by reducing an amount of attenuation of the light signal passing through an optical repeater amplifier. CONSTITUTION:An input signal light is branched into a plurality of light signals by means of an optical branching filter 1a. One of these branched input light signals is amplified by a semiconductor laser optical amplifier 4, and the rest of the signal travels through an optical waveguide 2 for bypassing purposes. The output light from the optical amplifier 4 and the light having passed through the optical waveguide 2 are combined together by an optical multiplexer 1b. |
