PURPOSE:To offer an automatic focusing camera which precisely decides whether an object is still or moved and controls the driving of a photographing lens. CONSTITUTION:This cameras is provided with the still and movement decision means 103 of the object based on the newest defocus quantity showing the closest and the closest defocus quantity of past plural times among the plural defocus quantities detected from plural focus detection areas in a photographing image plane by a focus detection means 102, and the newest defocus quantity whose absolute value is the minimum, and the minimum defocus quantity of the past plural times, an arithmetic means 104 which calculates the driving quantity for focusing the photographing lens 101 based on the newest defocus quantity among the plural defocus quantities whose absolute value is the minimum when the object is decided to be still, and calculates the driving quantity for making the lens 101 follow the object based on the defocus quantity of the newest and the past plural times becoming the base of the decision of movement when the object is decided to be in course of the movement and a lens driving means 105 which follows the lens driving quantity. The, by precisely deciding whether the object is still or moved, the lens 101 is controlled to be driven. |
