PURPOSE: To obtain an electrophotographic coating compsn. contg. a photoconductive perylene pigment and usable to form a high-speed electrophotographic layer without requiring a sublimation coating method. CONSTITUTION: A fine photoconductive pigment is dispersed in a soln. of a polymer binder in a solvent to produce an electrophotographic coating compsn. At this time, a crude perylene pigment is pulverized in combination with pulverizing media contg. inorg. salt particles and electrically nonconductive particles in a weight ratio of 0.5:1 to 3:1 under shear in the absence of a solvent to obtain a perylene pigment of <=0.2μm particle size. This pigment is continuously pulverized at <=50 deg.C under higher shear until the color of the pigment causes a sensible change and the temp. of the pulverized pigment is rapidly reduced by at least 10 deg.C. The pigment is then separated from the media and mixed with the soln. to produce the coating compsn.
