PURPOSE:To erase an image accurately by obtaining the rate of previously recorded recording information on the basis of recording and erasing information and computing recording and erasing energy by using a weighting table selected from the value when a visible image is recorded to a rewritable recording medium and eraser. CONSTITUTION:When overwrite recording, in which a novel image is recoarded while an old image is erased, is conducted, an image data containing erasing information is read from a recording information storage memory 11, a weighting table selected by the image data and a selecting section 21 is used by an imparting energy computing section 15, and the quantity of imparting energy of an aimed picture element is computed. A dot rate in a reference region is acquired from the image data by a dot rate computing section 17, and the value of the quantity of imparting energy is corrected from the value. The image data of the aimed picture element is received from the recording information storage memory 11 in an imparting energy control section 23, and recording energy is imparted to a recording section 19 when the aimed picture element is composed of mark dots and erasing energy to the recording section 19 when the aimed picture element consists of space dots. |
