Latex-, PVC- and plasticiser-free foamed floor and wall coverings

A process for the prodn. of a latex-, PVC- and plasticiser-free textile or plastic floor and wall coverings (I) contg. a layer of foam, etc.; the process involves spreading a powder mixt. (II) in the required thickness on the substrate layer (A), melting (II) at 70-110 deg. C, passing between smoothing rollers and heating at 120-200 deg. C to produce a foam; mixt. (II) contains 100 pts. wt. thermoplastic polymer (III), 0-100 pts. wt. fillers, 0.5-7 pts. wt. blowing agent (IV) and 0-30 pts. wt. additives, etc. The foam layer is gelled, smoothed and opt. printed, coated with further outer layer(s) (B) and then foamed; layers (A) and/or (B) are produced in a similar way from compsn. (II) without (IV) and without the foaming stage; (IV) contains an activator (VA) (pref. azodicarbonamide) and the foam layer is partly imprinted with a deactivator (VB) (pref. a triazole) after smoothing; the foam layer is backed with woven or non-woven textile fabric or release paper, to which a base layer of unfoamed polymer may be applied.
