In a gripping element (10) for sports shoe soles, with a base (14) on the sole side which can be detachably joined to or formed as one piece with the sole (26, 26a), a part (16) which forms the contact surface with the ground and a damping element (15) which can deform elastically under pressure are provided, the damping element (15) comprising vulcanised rubber and is bonded to the base (14) consisting of thermoplastic material by vulcanisation, and covers the total cross-sectional area of the base (14, 14a, 34). A gripping element (10) is thus produced, by comparatively simple means and at low cost, which has a damping effect, particularly in the axial direction (vertical direction).
