The optical image recording appts. uses recording devices (1-6) to record images periodically onto a photoconductive drum (8) in a time interval t0. A drive mechanism (16-19) cooperates with the recording devices so that the image is periodically recorded on a defined part of the photoconductive drum. The drive comprises a motor (16) which turns a belt drive wheel (17) for rotating the drum. The drive operates such that the time required for one rotation of the belt drive wheel is approximately equal to an n th fraction of the recording interval t0, where n is a number. ADVANTAGE - Prevents reduction in image quality caused by reduction in drum speed.
