PURPOSE:To automatically fix the optical fiber preform to an upper grip without any trouble and to appropriately lead even a large-sized preform. CONSTITUTION:An upper grip 1 is lowered from directly above an optical fiber preform 5 set at a definite position, the upper grip 1 is automatically clamped and fixed, the preform 5 is raised by the upper grip 1, then the upper grip 1 is lowered until the lower part of the preform 5 is brought into contact with a lower grip 2, the preform 5 is welded to a dummy rod on the lower grip 2 side, and the preform is melted and led. |
