PURPOSE:To obtain a purified material containing an antibacterial component and to use the material as an antibacterial agent by purifying a natural substance existing in a cave in the Tienshang mountains in Russia using a specific purification means. CONSTITUTION:A mountain tallow is purified by a gel-filtration process using a filler consisting of a crosslinked dextran containing hydroxypropyne group and having a fractional molecular weight range of 100-30,000 to obtain a purified mountain tallow containing antibacterial component. The purified mountain tallow is brown powdery substance which is easily soluble in water and slightly soluble in methanol. The purified mountain tallow or the extract of the purified mountain tallow is used as an active component for an antibacterial agent. The agent has antibacterial activity against bacteria of the genus Staphylococcus or pyogenic bacteria of the genus streptococcus, etc. |
