<p>A gas generator for an air bag and, in particular, an improvement in the housing of a gas generator. The invention aims at providing a gas generator of light-weight structure having a housing capable of being composed of thin plates, permitting filling of gas generating agent without the application of welding, and requiring advantageous manufacturing facilities. The gas generator is characterized by such a structure that: a combustion chamber is composed of a housing having an annular top surface of which inner periphery is fixed to the top wall peripheral edge of the central cylindrical holder (4) and also an annular bottom surface (16) fixed at the inner periphery thereof to the opposite edge of said holder; a diffuser (12) to compose a duplex wall covering the top wall of said central cylindrical holder and the top surface of combustion housing joined with said top wall, and an annular closure (17) fixedly welded to the lower edge of the central cylindrical holder at the inner periphery thereof for covering the bottom surface of the combustion chamber housing are provided; a filter-coolant (18) chamber is formed by the extended part of the diffuser (12) to which the outer edge of the closure is fixedly welded; and a port for gas flowing from the filter-coolant chamber (18) is provided on the extended part of said diffuser.</p> |
